Voting has started!
Here's how you can vote for City Council.
When can I vote?
The primary is on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Voting is open from 6 AM to 7 PM on Primary Day.
You can also vote early by mail or in person from Friday, May 2 to Saturday, June 14. You can find early voting hours on the City Elections Office website.
Where do I vote?
You can look up your polling place through the Virginia Department of Elections. All early in-person voting is at the City Elections Office in the City Hall Annex building on the downtown mall.
How do I vote by mail?
You can find information about voting by mail on the City Elections Office website. The last day to request a mail ballot is Friday, June 6.
Is there a deadline to register to vote?
No! Virginia has same-day registration, so you can register when you vote early in person or at your polling place on Primary Day.
Registering in advance is recommended, however, to reduce your wait time and paperwork on Primary Day. Learn more about registering to vote.
How does ranked choice voting work?

Charlottesville is using ranked choice voting in this election, so you don't just vote for one candidate. You get to rank the candidates in the order that you like us:
- Mark column 1 for your favorite candidate.
- Mark column 2 for the candidate you like next.
- Mark column 3 for the candidate you like the least.
I would honored to be your 1st choice for City Council!
How do I rank Jen as my 1st choice?
Just fill in the box in column 1 in the bottom row where my name is listed, as in the ballots below. You can then rank the candidate you like next in column 2, and mark column 3 for the candidate you like least.

Should I rank all the candidates?
You don't have to, but I hope you will!
You can't hurt your favorite candidate by ranking more. Your 2nd choice is only counted after your favorite has enough votes to win.
If you don't rank all the candidates, you can't help pick the 2nd winner after your 1st choice has won a seat. I hope you'll use the full power of your voice to shape our City Council.
